Welcome on ILGA LAC Website
The IV Regional Conference of ILGA LAC was held in Lima from September 20 to 23, 2007.
The mandate to organise the Conference in Lima was given to Instituto Runa by Latin America member groups that took part in the ILGA XXIII World Conference in Geneva in March 2006.
Financial support was provided by ILGA and by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECI) via the Spanish LGBT Federation (FELGTB).
175 lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex activists from 17 countries attended the Conference.
The Conference elected a subregional secretariat with three representatives (lesbian, gay, trans) from each of the following regions: Mexico, Central America, Andes, Brazil and Southern Cone.
Lohana Berkins (ALITT, Argentina), Susel Paredes (LGTB Legal, Peru) and Beto de Jesús (Instituto Edson Neris, Brazil) were elected as representatives of the Regional Secretariat.
The Conference also voted for Lohana Berkins and Susel Paredes to represent ILGA LAC on ILGA’s World Board.
A series of working groups were put in place during the Conference on issues regarding:
- Lesbian movement
- Gay movement
- Trans and intersex movement
- Political participation and social movements
- Legal changes and political work
Each work group agreed on objectives and proposals.
Participants also approved a new constitution for the region which, amongst other things mentions a change of name from ILGA LAC to ILGAT LAC and creates a financial council.
In asecret vote, the plenary selected Brazil as the next place for the Regional Conference. The Group Dignitade, represented by Toni Reis, is going to organise the next conference in 2009.
All documents, speeches, names of participants, results of elections, etc… can be read in the report of the Conference. These and additional documents have been archived under: “conferences”, “past conferences”, "Lima".
